INTRODUCTION
Bringing Personality to E-commerce
Baugher Botanicals is a local florist looking to showcase her services, portfolio, and grow her business with a professional online presence. Rather than settling for a generic Shopify template that didn’t reflect her bold, personality-driven, and colorful brand, we collaborated to design a fully customized Shopify store.
The result is a site that not only represents her unique voice but also provides the functionality she needs to book clients, sell products, and connect with customers through her portfolio.
THE CHALLENGES
Customizing from the ground up
Baugher Botanicals wanted a website that showcased her services and portfolio while reflecting the bold, colorful personality of her brand. She needed a solution that felt unique, avoiding off-the-shelf templates, and provided an easy way to manage her offerings online.
From a development perspective, the project called for a fully customized Shopify build. The goals were to leverage HTML and CSS for a tailored storefront, integrate Shopify plugins to extend functionality, and structure CMS collections to make managing services and content intuitive for the client. Ultimately, the site needed to combine strong branding with a seamless e-commerce experience that could help grow her business.

CUSTOMIZATION
Integrating custom HTML/CSS & Plugins
When building Baugher Botanicals’ Shopify store, the goal was to create a site that matched her bold, personality-driven brand while providing all the functionality a florist needs. Shopify handles CMS, product management, and basic customization well, but for a business with such a unique style and specific service needs, custom development was essential.
I used custom HTML and CSS to tailor fonts, colors, layouts, and overall styling to fully reflect the brand’s personality.
Beyond visual customization, I integrated Shopify plugins to add key features:
Custom HTML/CSS for mobile optimization
Custom sections for flexible page layouts
A tailored contact form to collect customer information and streamline booking communication
A gallery to showcase her portfolio of arrangements
Reviews and rating widgets on product pages
A map highlighting her delivery areas
These customizations allowed the site to feel fully unique, while also providing a seamless experience for customers and simplifying site management for the florist.
CMS COLLECTIONS
Managing Services and Products
For Baugher Botanicals, organizing services, products, portfolio items, and blog content in a clear, manageable way was essential. I structured the site using Shopify CMS collections, creating dedicated sections for:
Service offerings (arrangements, events, subscriptions)
Portfolio/gallery items to showcase past work
Blog posts to share tips, news, and seasonal ideas
Customer reviews and testimonials
Each collection was set up so the client can easily add, edit, or remove items without touching code. This CMS structure allows Baugher Botanicals to maintain a fresh, up-to-date site while keeping content consistent and visually aligned with her brand.
By combining Shopify’s native CMS capabilities with custom layouts and plugin integrations, the site feels both flexible and fully tailored, giving the client control while maintaining a professional, polished online presence.
LOGO, COLORS, & FONTS
Brand Identity
The website’s visual identity was designed to reflect the natural, vibrant essence of Baugher Botanicals. The color palette draws inspiration from the florist’s craft: greens representing foliage, pops of color inspired by flowers, and purple and light tan tones to evoke an earthy, grounded feel.
A carefully sourced typeface and the florist’s logo were applied consistently across the site to create a cohesive, personality-driven aesthetic. These branding choices guided the layout, styling, and plugin customizations, ensuring the Shopify store feels as unique and lively as the business itself.
MOBILE-FIRST DESIGN
Mobile Optimization
To ensure a seamless experience on mobile devices, I used custom HTML and CSS to fine-tune the layout and interactions. The main navigation overlays the hero section on smaller screens, with adjusted colors and contrast for visibility.
I also optimized the heights of key sections so content fits naturally on various screen sizes, avoiding awkward spacing or excessive scrolling. These refinements keep the site visually engaging and fully functional across devices while retaining the bold, personality-driven aesthetic of Baugher Botanicals.
The Results
The project resulted in a fully customized Shopify website and online store that allows Baugher Botanicals to sell services, showcase her portfolio, and collect inquiries through a tailored contact form.
Additional features include a downloadable form page, product reviews for à la carte products, and custom sections that give the site a unique, standout look. The combination of custom HTML/CSS, plugin integrations, and CMS collections ensures the client can easily manage content while providing a polished, professional experience for customers.
